Default Lake Lacygne Wiper Fishing (Son Lands a Monster!) 07/21/12

My son and I made another trip to Lake Lacygne this morning. This was our 3rd weekend in a row to hit that lake and we continue to have really good luck. I ordered a new 8' Bett's Super Pro Cast Net this week and man it's nice. I had never bought a good cast net nor one over 5 feet in the past. 2 throws and we had our shad for the day. It was worth the extra money.

We were up at 3:30 am...on the water by 5:00 am and fishing by 5:15am. My experience the last three weeks is that the bite really slows down by 10:00 am. Today 90% of our fish were caught by 9:30am. That being said...getting up at 3:30 am every Saturday the last month has been worth it.

We fished Fishtech Double W spoons, 3/4 oz...and of course shad. Basically I am looking for large balls of bait fish...hopefully with the tale-tale missle lines on the depth finder going through the shad schools. We drop down lines with shad and then normally vertically jig a spoon. Today we had better luck fan casting the spoons and working them like you would a texas rigged plastic worm. Most our fish came on spoons...but our big fish came on shad.
This wiper my son caught was a monster!! I really wanted to try and weigh it on a certified scale but knew with the heat and conditions the fish would die for sure. Instead we snapped a quick photo and released it...so I'll let everyone speculate what the fish weighed....and it is swimming to be caught again.

Nice fish. I would guess 10-12lbs what do you think? That kind of fishing is addictive. Nice report.

WTG. A catch like would put a big smile on any fishers face but seeing the smile on that young fishers face puts a big smile on my face. It sure looks like you now have that lake dialed in.

jigin...I would say your weight estimate is really close. My boy loves to fish for sure...not sure that the up at 3:30 am trips on Saturday will last as he get's older though. I know it won't be long before his priorities get out of whack for a while and he thinks girls are more fun than fishing...he'll figure it out again though at some point.

A couple more pictures to post...you can see who got to reel in all the big fish on our down lines!!

Thats great when the kid gets the big one. Any idea what the length was? Looks like a 27" or 28". WTG.
