Question Miami State Fishing Lake

Anyone ever fished this lake? It is in the top ten rankings for Black Crappie(Lakes). I seem to remember a post on this but could not go back far enough in the postings to find anything.

I think they drained and dredged the lake recently, well maybe 3 years ago. Put in some brush piles and restocked it. I don't know how the fishing is, but i would doubt there could be too many very large fish just yet.

Lucky is correct. They did drain that lake about 8 years ago. I don't know about now, but it used to have some very big Crappie and Catfish in it.

8 years should have given them plenty of time to get plenty big. Where is the lake located?

Yeah Antioch I remember seeing something awhile back too. Made me think at that time that I should hit it up. It seems I remember reading it had standing timber, but I could be wrong. 8 years should be good enough. They have done the same thing to Douglas State lake just north of Baldwin. Been closed for 3 years and will open in January.....They said hopefully in 2 years this will be a dynamite fishery. From what I have read when they have done this to other state lakes they have come back and thrived in multiple species. Of course now I am tempted to go to Miami....We are very fortunate that we have some many good places to catch fish around here. The only bad thing about that is that I always want to try them and just do not get to know many of the lakes very well. But its good to always have options!

Thanks guys, i pulled the rankings from kdwp's 2008 fishing forecast. It is ranked 8th for lakes/black crappie and the top 25 for whites. Might make for a nice mixed creel. I think i am going to hit this lake on Sunday....Or maybe Banner.

yeah i got my boat 3 yrs ago 1 month after they closed douglas....damn thing is 2 miles from my house....really ticks me off as i would know that thing inside and out and would allow me to be on the water more often. Lonestar is a lake i fish more than any lake. I do a lot of bass fishing there and the crappies are getting better. Just got to find those 2 or 3 magical piles. Once you figure out where one is it is easy to figure out where the rest of the them are....I know there has to be more in areas I have not looked...

This lake lost alot of fish and had some issues with the flooding last year. It sits right on the Meri River. There were alot of carp/gar that washed into the lake and alot that washed out. I am not sure about all of the structer that was there a few years ago and how it effected it. I have seen some nice fish come out of there within the last 2 years. Have had alot of lines broken. It is a nice small trolling lake though. Always worth a try.
