I was down there Monday 8/4 trying for some of these "Shallow Summer Crappie" because of all these reports on here about these shallow crappie. Bought two dozen minnows and fished the Little Bull from daylight till noon. I had quite a few 'tick, tick, tugs' and started to get some confidence in this method and did enjoyed the day. I did catch 37 crappie and only one was legal. I went down there with no expectations of slabs but to just try to get a feel for this method of fishing.

I did bring home supper when a 6 pound flathead chomped on the jig and minnow. It was his unlucky day when it decided to swim out of the submerged hedge row. Would have never got it out if had stayed in the brush.

Also must complement the 'Lake n Dale' on their minnow count. Think that is their name the one on the norheast corner of the intersection of The Old Kansas City Rd and W255th St. I must have dumped 18 or more minnows on the ground after leaving the lake.

I just got off Hillsdale, caught lots of fish, some fat, nice, nine inchers. Had four keepers and lost a couple at the boat. I never did stop catching but sure takes a lot of small ones to get a keeper. I caught them on jigs in ten feet of water on the Big Bull. Fished the little Bull yesterday and same thing, lots of small fish, not enough keepers to clean. All were close to trees or thick brush. Nothing hit unless you fished right at the tree or in the brush. Good Luck to you and grandpa.

Almost nobody fishes the main lake. We caught some nice keepers last weekend in the middle of the lake.

The scenery is getting better around here too. You can tell KSU is getting ready to start. This time of year I often end up fishing around the swim beach...

You know, I'm much too classy for this fishing technique, but a buddy of mine swears it works every time... He says you look for a gal that is sunbathing and trying to avoid tan lines. You drive up in your boat and say, "geez look at the size of that snake swimmin' right at that girl". I guess they pop right up every time and always forget about the strings being untied... I would NEVER do that, of course, but he swears he's met a lot of angry women that way.
