Question Thermocline

I have been doing a bunch of research on summer crappie. One recurring point in several of the articles is to find the thermocline on your locator and fish beneath this depth. Most articles claim the thermocline can be found by setting the sensitivity to around 70%. I have tried this but don't see squat.

I don't know much credence to give this as it sounds like slabs can be caught in very shallow water....

Thoughts?

I have an Lowarence X-135 on my troling motor and i can see the Thermocline with it. I have both my grayline and Sensitivity set at 80%. Most of the lakes around here will have a thermocline at about 10' to 15'.

I wouldn't look for a thermocline in less than 15ft. Never have seen it that shallow. Most major lakes around here have one from 18 to 22ft unless there is a lot of current. There won't be one then. <*)}}}><

I'm tempted by the "Cline Finder"... Kinda pricy but ...

If it's true that you won't catch fish below the thermocline, then i'm thinking the thermocline is right at the SURFACE on the lakes i've been fishing.

Don't worry about the thermocline right now, GO TO THE TIMBER!!! Seriously right now and until it gets cold if you go to the timber you WILL find the fish, like these:
