Default Fishing line

Hi All,
I was doing some multi-species angling this weekend with a friend that regularly fishes bass tournaments, and we got to talking about fishing line. I like P-Line CXX for my baitcasters, but my buddy said most tournament guys won't touch the stuff because it is junk. I've always thought it was excellent for bass, walleye, and catfish on baitcasters, although it's a little stiff for spinning gear. I have been using P-Line's fluoroclear on my spinning tackle with no problems. Before that, I mostly used Stren brands.
My dad swears by Trilene XL. My buddy likes Trilene Maxx, but I have heard that other people don't like Maxx... Anyway, just wondering what you all use for different applications. I guess I'll probably stick with the P-Line for this season, but maybe I'll try something different when my current supply runs out.
So, what do you all spool up with? What do you like about the line you use? What brands have you sworn off, and why?
Any advice would be appreciated. Thanks.

I have experimented with several lines....The PLine Flouoclear has been the worst strength wise I have ever used....It really depends on what I am doing as to what type of line I use. I really like the power pro 10/2 for dippin trees or mr crappie hi vis yellow for dock fishing. When it comes to mono trielene sensation is really good on spinning tackle and trielene xl is hard to beat for my baitcaster outfits....I did buy some bass pro excel last time I was there and put it on everything in 6, 8 & 10lb since it was on sale for a 1500 yd spool and it has actually worked really well. I like to switch out line once a month any way and it is a little easier on the pocketbook and I have not had any issues with it yet, so it may be a keeper.

Thanks for the tip on the weak Fluoroclear. I will make sure to switch it out before I tie on another crankbait. I didn't lose any last weekend, but I guess I will count my blessings. I was using the #6 X-Rap shad crankbaits to try for walleyes, but ended up catching a lot more crappies, and big ones too.

We use 10/2 or 4/15 Power Pro on all our spinning reels for crappie, its more sensitive jiggin, no stretch, U.V. resistant. We used it all winter dock fishing right next to guy's with mono & caught just as many fish or more. During the spawn in shallow brush it really shines...no broken off fish!! Plus when you set the hook they stay hooked. Mono has it's place but it's losing favor in my style of fishing.

i have tried it all through the years and it seems like i always go back to basspro excel. it casts well , is limp, and is pretty strong. i have never had any problems out of it. it is also fairly inexpensive.

Thanks again for the advice. I did change out that line on 2 reels. I changed one to 6# CXX, and one to 8# Maxx. Hopefully I can get out on Friday and give the new line a try. Both seem to be a huge improvement over 6# and 8# fluoroclear.
Next time I'm in KC I'll have to stop by BP or Cabelas and try a spool of the house brand.

Good luck fishing this weekend!
