Default Council Grove?

Any one have any reports on this lake? I know the weather is supposed to be nasty today but I am thinking of heading up there.

Caught two good keepers last night at El Dorado on, get this, a rattle trap. Was fishing a creek with minnows and was just throwing the trap cause I was bored and ended up catching two crappie on it. Tried throwing minnows and jigs at the same spot with no luck.

Multiple boats fished CG on April 26 from RCFGA club. It was really slow, and caught more white bass than crappies. Of course, it was in the middle of a terrible cold front. Some guys ended up mushroom hunting instead. Finally got into a few decent crappies in the afternoon.
I haven't been back to the main lake since then, but the crappies are up shallow in other lakes around it. I would guess they should be up getting ready to spawn. Please post a report on the lake after your trip. I'm planning another trip down there on the 16th, and would appreciate any advice.

Well I fished the south side of Ritchie cove to begin with and caught a nice keeper right off the bat and then didn't have another bite for the two hours I was there. Then went up to Munker's/Short Creek on the east side of the lake. Went to the area that has the boat ramp and there were already a couple guys there. Between the three of us we probably caught 10 in about an hour, fishing about 2-3 feet deep. I had to leave pretty early to get back to Wichita but if I could have stayed till 8 or so I probably could have brought home 20. I am going to try to get back up there on Saturday but I don't know if I will be able to or not.

Thanks for the info. I'll have to check out that area on the 16th...

When I was there two weeks ago, we fished some in the creek/cove that is fed from CG city lake. I don't know what the name of that creek is... maybe Canning Creek? It's the cove between the two COE parks. Anyway, the cover looked like a million bucks for spawning crappies, they just weren't up in there yet.

If you don't find 'em at your regular spots, you might try in there. The bank access in there is also pretty bad, so you wouldn't have to compete with the bank anglers. Just an idea if you don't have much success on the East side...

Also an idea... My neighbor keeps telling me to forget the crappies and go to Council Grove for the saugeyes. I guess he's been catching them by trolling and drifting in 5' to 8'.

Caught 4 more BIG Crappie in the same creek on the east side of the lake. I fished for a couple hours but had to leave at 6 to get back to Wichita. It seemed like the fishing was starting to pick up but I had to get home.
