Don't know if anyone took me up on looking at my fly tying photobucket, but I have some crabs on there not tied by me and they are just awesome. Just thought I would give you guys a target as to how good you can get, maybe. So here are a few...

Those are out of my league.good looking stuff.I used to subscribe to fly tyer magazine and they had stuff where a guy worked on one for 144 hrs.It looked so realistic that customs thought it was real and seized it.I'm sure these take awhile to do as well. They look like the real thing.
One little tid bit for you. The middle ones body, that is deer hair and done by what they call spinning deer hair. I have made about 3 jigs using that technique, but not good enough, but I still plan on learning that better so I can make so jigs by spinning deer hair just have not had time to do that. My first try was about 2 years ago and still want to.
OK I will spill a few more beans to show the length guys go to tying. legs are hand cut out of a latex glove which he paints then covers with silicone to give them strength and body.
Enjoy,

I have got along way to go....But those are really good.
Is "spinning deer hair" the technique used to make floating bass flies? I'm thinking the mouse type ones. Those were one of the first flies I learned how to tie and they work great on bass. I've played with some on jigheads to make a more minnow shape profile body. Yet to try them out yet.
I got pretty good at spinning hair. What I sucked at was trimming it. Got a few good looking mouse and hairy caterpillars but nothing that good.
I will see if I have any of my crab attempts. Don't know where they are because they were terrible looking but did catch a cabezon or two.
Should be some shrimp patterns somewhere that are that realistic. I don't remember who had them but I saw them online a couple years ago.
I love taking my kids fishing, now if I could just manage to fish at the same time.
