Default Pop's Jig Tying Tip #107

Next time you're in the store... go to the live fish section and pick you up one of them small fish bowls.... take it home (pay for it of course!) and fill it up with distilled water.... heck, even throw in some sand/rocks/wood/fake plants (make it all purty like!).....

Next get you some mono and tie on a 'quick-clip'.....

Now tie you up some jigs and for each different style of jigs... clip on onto the clip and drop down into the water..... now you'll see just what that jig will look like in the water!

I like looking at my flies and jigs sometimes, but then I realize I don't know for sure how the fish sees it and I think many fish see it better than we do. Especially colors may be different to them so what we see may not be as important. I do like to see how much action a jig has or a new material though.
Here is a link to how fish see and it is quite eye opening I think. If you have not seen this here...

Do fish see color blind rods cones

Until the fish don't bite what I make I will keep exploring colors and combos as many times I think they just bite it to see what it may be. In other words just curious.

I do this already w/ a slightly larger 'fish bowl' - mine is the large economy size - a 5 gallon pail....

Good tip AW! I use a clear glass mug filled with water. The marabou jigs are really good looking under water, but the tails are bad about collecting air bubbles. This showed me that any air in the tail will destroy the action of a marabou jig. To resolve this problem, just get the jig wet then (with your hand) squeeze the air out of the tail.

Great tip, I was using the sink. Should put my aquariums to good use. Hopefully the big fish won't try to eat one.
I love taking my kids fishing, now if I could just manage to fish at the same time.

LOL, The sink was as far as I went. I don't think I want to go in that other water hole!
