    Default Exceptional Jig

Dollar Tree dollar store often carries mylar shredding for gift bag stuffing in silver, gold and red. The brand name is Viola. I took some 1/16 ounce leadheads from Walmart , powder painted the heads in red and used red thread....tied some jigs with the silver; clipping each doubled strand off at a random angle just behind the hook and added one strand of red down the sides for a stripe. This is done in a fan shape and makes a vertical skirt at the strands of mylar are flat. So far to date, it's caught 20 species of fish....5 saltwater and 15 freshwater including crappie. A friend up in PA, fishing below a dam in the winter, limited out three times in an hour on rainbow trout using it.

The other day I was lookng through Wal Mart at the Christmas clearance stuff and picked up holographic icicles marked down from 2 dollars to 50 cents. It really makes a fine looking flashy jig, refracting a variety of colors in the glitz.

The 16th ounce size works the best of all, if I make them bigger, the catch rate falls off dramatically. Just got lucky when I tied the first one.

Sory Game, I don't know how to post pics.

If you tie 4 strands, doubling it back each time to "lock" it in, it usually is enough to make a side for the skirt, being each time you go to the hook, you go just beyond the hook but at a slightly different angle, thus, filling in the skirt. Then in adding the red single locked but clipped at the thread red stripe, you have 9 strands per side. This fills in the side nicely.

There's only so much room on a sixteenth ounce jig to tie. The first strand I tie is the top one that goes from the little lead collar to the hook, just under the point....I tie a couple wraps and bend it back and go just under the bottom of the hook shaft...then all the others are simply filling in. If you get some of the material and tie, most likely my directions are sufficient and the jig formation will fall into place.
