    Default Spider & Wasps

After finishing the Woven Catalpa for the Bream swap, I am finding I am getting hooked (no pun intended) on tying for bream. Can't wait to get some smaller heads from Grousefly, but until then I will practice on these 1/32 oz. Tried a few different wings for the wasp and I may have got a winner with the second one.

Very nice stuff. Would you be willing to explain what you did in making those?

I tie in two threads using black embroidery thread and a smaller red thread down the length of the hook. For the wasps I used some yellow spinnerbait skirt material. The black needs to be longer than the other color as you will "build" the body with it. Starting from the back, wrap the black thread to form the body and tie off near the head. then wrap foward with the other material leaving space between the wraps. I wrap both threads opposite from the tying thread by the way (backwards if you will). Tie off the threads, clip and add either rubber legs or a wing material. I like the way the hackle worked for the wings so far, but I am still experimenting. Hope this helps. I almost forgot, make sure to turn the jig upside down to tie in the wings. As a matter of fact I tie the whole thing upside down.

Sweet looking ties! Makes me want to get some floss out and make some ants, bees and caddis. Might have to look into some of those 1/32 or smaller to have some up here.
I love taking my kids fishing, now if I could just manage to fish at the same time.
