Hi folks - I just posted this on the main board and realise I should probably have posted it here instead.
Here was my request:
I am an avid trout angler who lives in the north and who also enjoys ice fishing for crappies in the winter. I tie my own trout flies so I was thinking of tying up a bunch of small jigs for crappies this winter. I'll probably use tiny lead heads, chenille and various hairs and fur.
About color though, I was just wondering - if you could only have one color combination - what would it be? It doesn't matter if you ice fish or not, I'd really appreciate knowing what your favorite/ultimate color combo is.
Most of the lakes I ice fish have water that has a brownish stain to it, but a couple are quite clear as well.
Thanks for the suggestions and help.
That's my problem, I cant settle on just one....lol. Here are some close to the top....1.Flame/Black 2.Hot Orange/Black/Chart. 3.Hot Pink/Chart and I can't forget the one that started it all.....Plain/Grouse. That's the first fly that I started tyin' back in the day....and it's still a killer.
like I said on your other post....
anything/chartuse for stained water.
Clearwaters any of the white combos are great.
Anything with Chartreuse! Blue and Chartreuse is one of my favorite color combinations!

My "Go to" jig is Chartreuse/black with a little krystal flash.
My second best has been flourescent yellow and fire orange.

In case you don't go back to the main board here is my answer...
Well I have a lot of what I call favorites, but if I narrow it down to a couple I would have to say these...
The bottom one with FL. Red/Kelly Green/FL. Yellow (have used this combo for about 30 years) & Top Left Silver/FL. Yellow/Light Blue...
I also like these....
The Top 3 across, the middle one and the right top are new for me...
I also hear glow jigs are good for ice fishing...

All I use for the thousands of crappies I'll catch every year are my little hair jigs. Color and jig size changes with the water clarity, water temp, oxygen level and barometric pressure.
Open water to ice T.H.E.Jig rocks plus they hold together until you loose them.
These guys will all admit T.H.E. Jig works great.
If they are wet....they are catch'n fish

These are all good.
