For Someone New To Tying

Man, this is some GOOD readin'!

I have yet to tie my first crappie jig, but I retire in a few weeks and that's one thing I have always wanted to do.

Thanks to all of you all for takin' the time to give great information to those of us who are merely on the water's edge, about to take the plunge. I don't think I will be doin' it to extreme, but I would like to tie enough to keep my tackle box full of tiny jigs, for the "go to" when the bite is tough. <><

I promise you that the thrill will come the first time you catch a crappie on a jig that you tied. Have fun with it because this will be your new hobby. Good fishing to you.

I've been fising with those proven designs and still havent caught a Crappie yet. I get BASS and Bream, but so far no crappie. I even caught a Shad on a yellow jig.

Parrothadcrb, I went up to the San Juan river in New Mexico and fished with #20 and #22 flies. I couldnt even tie them on the line. Eyes are not that good any more.

A White head, red thread, white feather jig or a chartreuse head, red thread, and chartreuse and white body will catch fish anywhere. So will a micro spoon soldered to a gold #6 hook. Paint it Chartreuse and black. Instructions are on this thread.

I was out looking for crappie today--not a single one hit the jigs that I just bought. I knew what I wanted in a jig but just couldn't find it. I'm about to start making my own. It'll give me something to do when I'm not fishing.:D Thanks guys for this thread.

Every time I come in here it costs me money..lol. The return is gooooood. If I get any bigger around the middle from eatin fish gonna have to put some outriggers on ma belly to keep from fallin over. Thanks Ship and Skip and every body else. Please come by and tell me fishing stories while I'm in prison for writtin bad checks for fishin supplies.

Welcome from Alabama. It took you only three posts to find out that having fun tying is better than having fun buying jigs. Yeah, you still have to buy supplies but whatever works. Welcome to the forums.
