I have guides tell me 100+ fish all the time. Cheaper than minnows!
It depends on what materials it is made of and who tied it. A kiptail jig tied using a touch of super glue to lock the hair in will last 300 crappies or white perch etc. there are durability tricks etc for tying some of these marerials that will extend their life.

As soon as the barb is damaged. But I use small jigs with size 4 the biggest usually 6 or 8 mostly. So the hook is skinny and can get destroyed in no time. I don't push or pull jigs, I just use one pole and cast most of the time or vertical jig. Even my trolling hard baits get new hooks at least twice a year. Hooks are the cheapest part of fishing.
Are usually lose Jigs before I ever wore one out . Hey guys we been having problem with the sickle hooks I am losing fish went to the old fashion Style Jig hook Problem solved .
hook gos bad before any thing for me, lite wire only bends so many times.
I quit using Sickle hooks a long time ago, for the same reason- Barb not large enough.
Guys I know the barb is not big, but guys here that use them after I introduced them have come back and said just the opposite of your experience. Had one guy a couple years ago tell me he had not lost a crappie in 2 years, every since he started using the Sickles. I find that interesting and not the first of both sides I have heard over time!
