    Default Faux fur zonkers

Wondering if anyone has ever tried a zonker made from a craft fur strip and how it did?

Well I am not sure what kind of fur your trying to copy with craft fur, it's long and not like most of the natural furs used in a zonker. I use the real stuff on most of what I do, like Rabbit and it would be a lot better than cut down craft fur. The one guy here that I know uses craft fur almost all the time and is a guide, always ties it full length.

Tell us your plan a little more and maybe I can get the idea better in my head?

    Beautiful material.
I've been fishing a natural tie on every one of my last dozen trips and becoming mor of a believer in it.
That's tie up nice n realistic.
I'd just measure n cut as I use it and not worry about pre cutting "zonkers".
Actually, rabbit works better, to me, cut from the hyde. Problem is, rabbits not that long of hair, even with the magnum size.

Good looking stuff to be sure! Hard to tell length, but it's it's like 2" or 3" long I would just cut it off at the material and tie it in. I would also probably use a collar jig head just to keep it set in place better. I prefer one that doesn't have the barb and just has a ball or flair at the end of the collar.

You could use it like a Zonker, but think I would make a body out of chenille. For me I think the above method would be very nice taking it off the material to tie it in as a thread-neck jig.

The material is actually fairly short which is one reason I thought of zonkers. It's only just over an inch.

Dang, well I believe that I would use it as a zonker tail. Looks like these are strips already and wondering how wide they are. It seems like it would be a pain to me, but if there is a way you could make it cover all around the shank without looking funny. You could also use like like a crosscut is tied on, but since it's not cross cut it will stick out wide, but maybe when wet would just lay back? That may work as I think and type. This way you would need to tie it in like a zonker which is at near the hook bend and wrap forward to the head and tie in. You could always tie one and stick it in water to see how it acts?

I have used this material and it makes a great looking natural striped grey ghost-and a very different looking two tone jig when used with other colors of craft fur. It has under fur that I remove before tying-I really don't think it would make a good zonker material because of the backing of the craft fur-very stretchy stuff. I just cut /tie.

The underfur on craft fur is so thick it really needs to be combed out. I use that same pattern craft fur to make a jig and it does work well but like you stated it is thin so you have to stack enough together to make a good tail material.

Maybe would be better off getting some barred marabou or maybe even some barred Ostrich (but is a bit high cost) after hearing from some guys that have seen this. Really best option in my mind is still Rabbit Zonkers or crosscut or both!
