Thank you guys so much, awesome response and I am happy to see some like these as much as I did. Started to do this as an experiment to see how they would look and I was really surprised that I like them as much as I do, but your replies help me feel better about the whole idea of using Hackle on these. You know also in the back of my mind is if these work as well as the Marabou ones I am also thinking these tails should outlast Marabou maybe? I do know the Marabou tails will last long enough to boat 125 crappie as we have done that and they were still hitting it when it was retired, lol! So this way if the Hackle outlast the Marabou that should be interesting as a side note!

    Thanks again guys,

Got a friend that thinks they are great and he usually single pole dips. Again, I would thank you for all the support and advice as I continue to learn. I'll be calling soon. Some more stuff I just gotta have. Talk about addictive!!
LOL, addictive yes it is and what I have been saying for years, but no one listens, ROTFLMAO! Your very welcome buddy, I enjoy helping guys out with tips or to answer their questions and there should be many. If they all only knew or listened before they jumped, LOL! Once out of the pan and into the fire, things get crazy!

Anyway was wanting to see what you guys think and if you like them too?

I did tie one group of the Gray ones using marabou.

Stinger Road Runners. Gotta love those! Color choices are great and the acid rain really works well. Not having fished in 2 months I can't say that I could be a field tester for them but I think they will definitely hunt. I have tied most every color combo that I have ever tied with the v's and always do well with them, sometimes better than the Boo. One thing that I fool with sometimes is the fuzzy part of a hackle feather. I'll tie in one or two fuzzy V's in last to give the stiffer V's a little movement when it sits still. It appeals to me and the fish gave it a yes vote too. As always, very nice work Skip.

Those look really good skip. I've been leaning towards not using tips any more also. I already mix some in like that as I go.

Good colors, they will be jumping in the boat for them. I also like those spinners.

Well Jimmy I got this idea really from the original Gray Ghost and how it was tied by the guy that lived on Lake Fork who passed away several years ago. I had someone send me one to show me what they wanted (this was probably 4 or 5 years ago). The head was the fist thing I saw different, then the tiny hook and I mean tiny regular bend hook. I see the Sickle #6 as a better option. However I get off topic, sorry! The tail is what we are talking about and I started tying this kind of just really just on the Gray Ghost. That fit me so well as when I fist came up with using the little V's like I do for tails with a tip. All my tying days I have saved every piece of feather that I even thought maybe one day I will find a use for it, yes even the butt left over after I cut my tip and V's. I have bags you wouldn't believe how many V's I have in some colors, lol! Then I saw when Blakemore came out with the Slab Daddy Jigs and if you look close at them you will see most of them are tied just using the butt end of the feather that we don't use. I have a bunch of these and I guarantee you could take two of them and make a dandy tail just like the Slab Daddy and all you need to is leave a little of the barbules on that butt which I have all this time.

So in the end I say keep all you left over stuff if there is a chance you can use it later one. I keep my tying Hackle in Qt Zip Lock bags, then each left over part in a sandwich bag or even some in a snack bag and then keep them inside that same Qt zip lock. That way when I pull out a bag it has everything I want of that color!

I keep tips I miss cut, I keep skinny feathers I don't care for just incase I need to tie some tiny jigs. I only throw away the quill end only if there is not enough stuff left on it for anything! Keep in mind there are a lot of fly patterns that use the quill of some feathers so even that stuff can be good for some tiers.
