Default Ice Jig for FL Crappie

An easy pattern for hard water fishing here in central NY state; also has a good following in FL when fished between lily pads. A quick video I posted on youtube a few days ago https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=l31M0HUXK0o enjoy!

Welcome to the site and the board! Nice video, but I do have a question, what is that last bit of thread you had (I think you said something about it being 12" long and looped over??) and exactly what is it for?

    Thanks,

Instead of whip finishing the collar I take a scrap piece of thread, a different color, fold in half o make a loop an place it under the thread from the bobbin. I then add a couple wraps, snip my thread from the bobbin and take the tag end up through the loop. Pulling the loop draws the tag end under the wraps so the collar is finished nice and neat. I have a couple other vides on youtube tying larger jigs that shows the same way to finish. Check out How to Tie a Sandpike Jig

That's a clean way to finish off a head....nice and neat. Great video by the way. I don't do much with the chenille, but I have added hackle to quite a few small ice jigs over the years.

I have been doing the same thing over many years using jigs and search the type that you would use for a plastic tube. nice video

I just got time to go back and look at the video about that finish and that's pretty slick way to finish! I am trying to convince myself it's as good as a whip finish, but since I have not tried that it's hard for me to see what really is holding that thread other than some warps over the top of it and that's all except the glue of course. It's just seems strange to me, but I will have to try that.

I have another question for you about tying that bucktail jig with out a collar. Don't you ever have it spin on the shank if there is enough pressure on turning it?

One more, lol! Okay so you keep referring to thread size using alphabet like size A, well I have seen 3/0 and by denier, but don't know what your using so can you help with that too?

The thread is size a rod wrapping thread. Finishing the collar is a whip finish that pulls the tag end under many wraps. You can look at other YouTube vids I have posted with a better view of this.
