Powder paint question

I do not have too much knowledge on using powder paint but I tried it in the past. One of the questions I have about powder paint. When you are painting fluorescent do you use a undercoat . The other question I had do you use clear coat. And how many of you guys mix powder paint. Also was wondering how many of you use a heat gun.

Hey I use an alcohol lamp for heat. Don't need clear coat and only time I use a clear over is when I paint on eyes with Acrylic or if I am putting clear over Fl Yellow or Chart I use clear Vinyl because the Sally Henson's will discolor the paint on the two colors I mentioned.

I also use a fluid bed that I bought, some make them, but I have never found that works as well for me.

Just get you count down based on head size for what kind of heat you use and dip them. I also use a tooth pick to help get paint out of the eye if need be. I uses a hot bodkin if paint is filling the eye after curing it in the oven.

to get different colors. Pink and Yellow in a nice color, almost Orange. one thing I do is I donxt mix them real good. That way when I dip into the powder, I get multi colored jigs. neat looking to have a jig that's got char and red in them. On keeping the hook eye clean, i use a paper clip and run it through the eye and it gives me more control of the jig cause I've not only got ahold of the hook but also with the eye since the clip is through it

i use a heat gun to heat my heads. Then I" make a base coat of the color I want, if I want to add multiple colors, I use a paint brush and dip it in the paint and then tap it over a hot jig head and it makes a cool effect on the head. then cover the head with hard as nails to protect the paint from coming off.

Even with the flourscents I haven't used an under coat yet. I heat mine in th oven but Just recently won a fluid bed in an auction so I'm gonna pick up a heat gun.

For cleaning eyes I use a piece of Mr. Clean scrubber pad with a slit cut in it and rub the paint off so the eyes are clean but everyone has their own method.

These are the techniques I use painting plain jigs, there's several different tricks for when you have swivels like in pony jigs and some spoons where you don't want paint on them.

I don't undercoat when using powder paint. the only time I use clear coat
is after putting eyes on. I used to use a candle to heat jig, then dip in powder. I saw heat guns being used on here so I bought one............
.........never, never, ever go back to candles!!!!!!!
I try to be careful not to get paint in the eye, but if I do I also use a heated bodkin. On pony heads I wrap the swivel with tin foil.

Depends on how you use your powder paint. If you want to “fluff and stuff” - yeah - it would be good to go with an undercoat (a fluid bed will give you a thin even undercoat). It’s always recommended to use the undercoat – personally don’t think it is necessary. I primarily use brushes with up to 4 or 5 colors and fresh clean jigs – no undercoat.

I use clearcoat mostly for mixing with other colors and sometimes for an overcoat for saltwater jigs. For small and ultra lite jigs use fingernail polish or epoxy for an overcoat.

Mix almost all my paints now – color wheel is a great tool.

Heat gun is the best way to produce a safe consistent heat source.

Wow ledhed those are fantastic looking jig heads fantastic paint job I hope I get that good. Thanks guys for all the valuable information on sure that I'll put it to use. Where can you get it good deal on powder paint:D
