Got the Stuff, Made some jigs, Time to try them out!

Well, I got the stuff to start tying my jigs and made about a dozen and a half. Gonna check em out tonight andd see how they work. A thread about glow in the dark flashabou sent me to the store to add a few more items to my arsenal. I will post the results after the weekend along with some picts of the jigs I made.

Gotcha! It really is fun catching them on something that you created yourself. We are all looking forward to seeing those pictures.

OK, I got called in to work Saturday morning. I still went out for a little while and tried the jigs out. The wind was 15-20 and not much was biting. I set out two lines with bobbers and minnows and worked a jig with a third pole. The jigs caught several different things including catfish, 1 crab, white bass and one crappie. I had a few minnows stripped off the jigs and couldn't feel or see the bite due to the wind. I about decided I had a mess of turtles below me. I felt a light bite on the jig and watched it move off a little I pulled slightly and felt tension, bam, I set the hook and sure enough felt like dead weight. I got it to the top of the water to and it was a slab. I leaned over and caught it by the lip and brought it in the boat. I hit the rod holder which knocked it out of my hand, but it was still in the boat, but not by much. I put both hands over it about the same time it flounced and put a fin in my hand. Pulled my hand back and watched it flip into the water. If the cameras were rolling I think that would have made the AFV highlights. I just laughed it off. It was 1.5 to 1.625 #. That was fun, and I am hooked. I will get some picts of my jigs this weekend. I appreciate all the help I have received on this board.

The guy's did'nt lie when they said catching fish with something you tied is addicting. So just like that slab you are now HOOKED!! I started a few months back during ice season and have learned so much fron ship skip and all the rest here. I believe I haved learned something from every post on here and thank everyone for this forum ....without it I might of gave up on a great new hobby along time ago.

I learn a lot from Skip and everyone else on this jig tying forum. We all learn together and in the end everyone is a better fisherman.

What are you covering your thread with? Or am I looking at it wrong?

If that is all thread then I would say don't wrap it quite so far down the shank. If it was chenille that is about the right length for the body. Also I am not sure you need as much thread as you have on there.

I would have to know a little more to be positive about what I see. A thread neck jig is usually narrower at the neck and is not really a body. If I am seeing this wrong then met me know.

Get a double edge razor to trim the excess hair off at the head being careful not to cut your thread.

One last thing, resize your pictures so hat the big side is no more than 640 pixels. So that or less and it will fit the Internet better.

Covering thread with hard as nails clear.

I wrapped the thread down that far to make the tail pull in instead of fluffing out so much. How would you normally overcome that? I started with a loose wrap first and tightened it to the bobbin tension.

You are seeiing correctly that is thread. Danville 6/0 flat waxed.

I appreciate the help and welcome any comments. They will help fine tune or completely change my process.
