    Default Lake Sugema

Has anyone fished Lake Sugema yet this year?

I'm looking to head down there this week and give it a try. We usually go down around the last weekend in April and do well.
    Thanks,

I`m curious too. I`m heading down with the guys for 3 nights on Thursday.
Saw on another forum that they were catching some and the females had eggs.
Hopefully spawn will be in full swing this week.

I was told by a buddy in Ottumwa that the crappie where starting. He also said the saugeyes were on a tear.Good luck, we're headed to 3 mile for a law enforcement crappie tournament on Thursday. Anyone heard any reports from down there?

Returned from Sugema yesterday after 3 days of fishing. The 3rd day was short. Wind was real bad on Saturday.
But, 4 of us got 168 keepers. Thats 13 1/2 lbs. of fillets. About 70 percent of those fish were Crappie. We fished almost exclusively with minnows fished 1 to 4 feet under the slip bobber. Most fish were caught in 4 to 5 feet of water. The average size was a bit smaller than we caught last year.
    Water temp was 66 degrees.
My neighbor went a few days before me and his party caught over 200 using mostly twister tail jigs.
Lots of fish still had eggs in them, so they are ready to spawn.

We actually had one more quart size baggie filled besides these 2 bags.

Good job guys. Saguma's a nice little lake, used to fish it when I lived in Muscatine.

Fished Sugema on Wednesday 5-13 and ended up with 59 crappie, 10 gills and 1 walleye. Most crappies were around 9" to 10" with the biggest one at 12". All fish were caught on mini-mites w/ minnows and small shallow cranks 1-4 feet deep. They didn't seem to be up on the banks yet. It was windy and rained all day. The water surface temp was between 62 & 64 degrees.
I agree with YoMoma and believe that the fish seem much smaller than last year. We had way to many to count 5" & 6" fish thrown back.
    Thanks,
