Thread: lake Sugema Iowa?

There is good crappies in the lake along with some nice walleye's to boot. There's 2 ponds up on the North / West end of the lake callled (Tug Forks ?) that have nice crappies & gills. The pond on West side of road even has a boat ramp. In the main park Lacey Keo. is the pond/lake with ramp they call Lacey Keo.. It to has gill and crappies but not good #'s for crappies. I live about 2 hours from there and only ice fish it once or twice a year if they get good ice down there. If you make the trip lets here how you do. PS there is a 6 year old lake with good crappies and gills a little closer to you. It's Big Hollow between Morning Sun and Danville Ia..

Depends on your definition of "good" fish. If you like 9" crappies and 7-8" gills then have at it! There ARE bigger gills in there, but you have to sort and sort.

Tug Fork West aka Lake Miss to the IA DNR. Nice 12" fish, this spring.



Went out there this past fall to check it out thinking the fall fatten up bite would be happening, and it looked like half of Crappie.com was on the pond. That should say something. I will be working the main lake (Sugema) and Tug Fork this season to learn what I can.

As I only run a 30 lb electric I am limited by the wind as to what water I can cover, and the country over there is wide open.

Do not know how well the Walleye are recovering as they took a big hit when the DNR poisoned the lake to control Gizzard shad that got into the lake.

There is a campground w/ cabins on the south side run by contractor for the County Conservation. Stayed there several years ago, nice cabins. Lacey Keosauqua State Park on the north side with a nice campground, a couple of "Outfitter" style places with cabins on the north side by the ramps.

All this leads one to think there must be a fair amount of "Fishin" going on. If you are just for Crappies, maybe not.
When you consider that Van Buren County doesn't have even ONE stoplight, one starts to think it is a nice place to get away.
