Nice mess of crappies! Hope the Coon gets better in the next couple of years. I caught a lot of very nice crappie out of it for a lot of years at one time. Glad, you got your stepson out too. He will enjoy eating them!
Me and step son hit Raccoon again today, fishing Roadrunners, curly tail 1/16 oz jigs and squirts under a bobber on 1/64 oz jig.. got on lake fishing about 8 am and off lake just before
3p.m.. caught somewhere around 80 crappie and kept 38, biggest majority were 9 3/4-10 1/2 in. fish with step son keeping a few a bit under 9.. we've caught at least 200 crappie in 2 trips and none have been over 10.5 in. long well maybe a couple 11 inchers.
This lake is definitely in the small crappie cycle, wind pretty much sucked the last 3 hrs we were there blowing 17 mph gusting harder, gave the XI5 a workout.
They didn't seem to care too much what color jig body but you would catch 10-15 then they would quit hitting switch to different color and catch a few more.
Females still full of eggs.

I used to fish Raccoon at least 3 times a week back in the mid to late 90`s and used to get on the lake at daylight and be home by 10:30 with a limit and no fish were usually under 10.5 in. with most 11-14 in.. hope it gets better a lot of fish just not much size right now, sure there's some big ones in there just haven't hit them yet, all fish were caught in 13 ft of water or less with quite and few right up against the bank around rocks or limbs in the water.
Even with the small size its enjoyable fishing as in some spots we had doubles on or caught fish on every cast, a lot of guys we watched fishing minnows were not catching anything while we watched.
