I think you have to have a boat launch permit from the city of Salem to launch a boat. Electric motors only. I have fished it a couple of times a few yrs ago tho.

No, but I bet it's across the road coming in.

I'd say it is across the road, but have not been to the lake yet. It would be nice if we could gets some stakes or poles marking the edges of the road, because it drops off on both sides of the road in that area next to the lake. It would help you stay in the middle of the road when you went through the water.

Made it to the lake Saturday afternoon and the water is still high but not across the road. The water temp that I found on most of the lake was 57 degrees but had no luck in catching any fish. The biggest problem was just launching your boat as there are so many people and kids trying to fish from the banks that they are taking up all the spots to park your trailer. They are parking so far down the ramp in front of the yellow concrete barriers and the sign that says you can't park there that you have no place to swing your boat and trailer around to even launch. talked to several guys trying to launch who where pretty pissed to find all the vehicles parked where they are not suppose to be. I hope the city will start checking as it is pretty bad for those of us who have paid for the permit to launch. Saw one Kayak out fishing who didn't have a permit on his kayak.

That's why I quit going. Always a circus. Those fish should be up in the trees back by the creek.

Call the city and let them know. Raise all kinds of hell and tell the other fishermen to do so. Money talks sometimes as you buy the permits and the parkers don’t.

I sent an email to Russell Brown <[email protected]>, he is the guy in charge of the John Hays Lake. He read my email but I have not gotten a reply from him. I have also emailed him about the road going into the lake and he is suppose to be looking at that. It will take more than me to get anything done about it. It is a circus up there that is for sure, but I really like fishing the lake, may have to try and find another lake similar to John Hays.
