Thread: Northern Indiana

Anybody catching any crappies in Northern Indiana? I am about an hour south of Michigan line and have caught some but not getting into them real hard yet. Just wanted to see if I should try a new spot.

Myself think that the weather has turned and any day they should or have been up in the beds

Have been gettin a few in shallow but they are not on the beds, just following the food in.

It'll be another month before they're on beds around here. I've heard of a few guys tearing them up already here in northern Kosciusko county. I think this weekends weather is going to slow things down though.

The crappies were already producing eggs at the end of December.

if we get some good sun, the water will be in the 50s by the end of the week.

So river scum, I was looking at a couple of your pictures and you had one of some small redears and other fish that you were using for bait. Are you putting those on limb lines or using a rod and reel? Also, do you keep them alive?

the tiny ones you mite be referring to were for tip-up bait. i keep gills on hand all year in a tank(also in pics). winter i keep 3"ers and in summer i keep 5"ers for catfishing. limb lines, trot lines but mostly rod n reel fishing these days. live or fresh cut depending on the mood of the fish that day.
