I personally would check out Huntington Res. South of Ft Wayne on I69 then West on SR 224, Or Salamonie Res. South on SR 24 to Huntington to SR 9 South to SR 124 West.
All are within 40 miles from Ft Wayne. This time of year the water is low & at winter pool but both have nice crappie. Navigate slowly if you are using a boat until water rises or you learn the areas.

I'll be in town for at least for another month. I'm doing the IPFW dorm right by the Johnny Appleseed park what should I try jig or gust good old minnows?

I'm a purist. Hate minnows! Hate cold wet hands! Line's in the water longer using jigs. About any combination with chartuese. I like dark colors in muddy water, light colors in clean. I usually troll, if fishing the bank I use a bobber to hold the jig in the strike zone longer.

Myself think you are wasting your time at Appleseed, better off to go to south of Fort Wayne about 20 miles

Trust me, you aren't wasting your time fishing the rivers. I've caught some really nice ones around town already. Not that I hate minnows but with the murky water and all the submerged brush it's easier to not get hung up when you don't have a minnow swimming around.

i use minnows and jigs. float 1or2 minnow rigs then toss the curlytail around(third rod) to search. probe any slack/eddie water areas along the bank you find.

Is there a ramp where you can launch from on the Sal. Res.? Was there a week age and no water near the Dora Ramp. Maybe things have changed by now.
