Mississinewa Res up to summer pool currently
Now why would they change the water level a total of 24.3ft in a matter of days???? It just baffles my mind why they would change the water level so fast. Are they planning on releasing a bunch of water when the river slows down? Are they going to constantly be changing the water level this year again in the spring too????
Sorry guys just had to rant, and wondered if anybody knew any reason behind this?

oh boy not again
. Last year one week Hog's Back was flooded over the banks the next week I walk across it in waders. This really messes with the white bass run.

Dont know, i just checked the level this morning and noticed the same thing. I had planned on heading out tomorrow or friday for the first trip but think i'll just stay in and watch some college basketball instead now. It's hard to reach my early spot with the water at summer pool from the bank to begin with and i think it's too early for them to be up in the cove i normally fish at summer pool. Plus they gotta be messed up with a change like that. I just figured it was from all the rain last weekend, it's probably nice and muddy too. Oh well, might just wait another week or two and see what happens.

dont know for sure but probably from all the rain we got? lol
i never did understand why they dodnt raise it till spawn is over. you would think that would benefit the fishery more than any regs. could.

I'm sure it's from all the rain. I've been keeping an eye on it and Monday in 24 hours it raised 9.4 feet and Tues it raised another 4.2 feet. However the out flow yesterday was 1575 and today it's 3674. If you look at the chart from last spring it looks like they start gradually raising it to summer pool in early April. Here's the link

It is from all the rains! And yes, they will lower it down again, and again, and again. In talking with the Army Corp. of Eng., this lake is purely for flood control. It's not about the fishing!! They really don't care what it does to the fishing. Perfect example is the fact that they lowered it this winter an additional 10 feet to what they had lowered it the last 3 to 5 years. Before that, they did lower it 25 feet (like this year), and alot of us know how non-productive the lake use to be. It was just getting good too! Oh well, can't win them all.

-Thanks

I understand it's from the rain, but couldn't they control it a little better to control the water level a little more steady... Jeesh!!!!
For not caring about the fishing, it sure is a good lake for fishing!!!!!

I agree that it is a great fishing lake now. However before they lowered it down for a few years there to fix the dam it was just very below average. Would drive an extra 30 miles to go to Salamonie and drive right over the dam at Missisenewa. Just the way it was, seems like if they keep it up it will be right back that way before long.

Blue= water imput (rain), red= dam outflow, green= ideal level, black =actual level. It looks like last year they started raising the water to summer pool around April 1st. Look at the actual level right after a heavy rain.
