I know this is a crappie form BUT I like to fish for walleyes to. I can go to Monroe,Brookville,& Sullivan & catch them but can't figure out Cataract I know they stock it heavy with frys every year & for a lot of years now I just can't find them & Cataract is only 30 mins. from my house.![]()
Shed some light on how you catch them, I catch them only by accident. Fished for them once or twice at Erie and wore them out, but thats a whole different world.
I've never really fished FOR walleye, but do fish cataract quite often. Have actually talked to a C.O. at Cunot boat ramp one day a couple years ago who was releasing 1.5 million walleye fry into the lake. He stated that a hopefull expectation would be for 1% of those to reach maturity. When crappie fishing I am generally in shallower waters of course, but this is when I've accidently caught a few walleye, always being very small in the 3 to 4 inch range. For what it's worth, I did not have any of those instances this past year. I'm on Cataract prolly about 20 times a year.
Like Momma always said, "There ain't nothin' worse than a messy tackle box!"
i thought the state learned their lesson on stocking fry and stopped? they tried to stock eyes here in cedarville too but they didnt take for some reason. some lakes aren't rite for eyes i guess. i wish you luck in finding some down there.

I was at an Indiana Walleye get together at Cataract a few years ago and out of about 20 boats I think that only 1 or 2 walleys were caught. I have caught a few in early June by fishing a jig and minnow in 6' to 10' of water on the long points. It seems as soon as the sun comes up though the bite is off. I have also heard that several are caught trolling along the creek channel north of the Cunot ramp, out in front of the beach, and below the dam in late february and early march.
I was just reading today on dewart lake they found the larger fry were taking but not the smaller ones. The state stopped stocking it beause of the cost and availability of the larger fry. I saw this on tv about a different lake also with the same results. On dewart some fishing groups stocked for a few more years out of their pocket so eyes can still be taken there i guess. http://dewartlake.org/aboutthelake.html
I read an article a few years ago by a guy who fishes Cataract often and he claims it is different from other walleye lakes in that it is a middle of the day bite there.
They put 1500 in Lake Shafer last year or the year before and they seem to be taking.
