I've got cabin fever BAD. I have never been to Turtle Creek and was thinking this could be one of the first place to have open water. I was wondering a few things and thought some of you might be able to help me out.
Does it even have crappie in it?
Will the ice be off at the power generator discharge area?
I know it has a 10 horse limit but I've heard conflicting stories about a bass boat and using the big motor to idle with??
Thanks,
Bart
Right now there is not a horsepower limit on the lake but it is idle speed only. This is being done on a trial basis right now. The lake opens for fishing tomorrow now that the goose season has ended. There are a few crappie left in the lake, but I have heard that numbers are down for them and the largemouth. Most of the ones that I have caught there came from the standing timber going into the bay on the left at the NW corner and along the south bank after the lake turns and heads back east before you get to the riprap. You can call the guard shack at the ramp at 812-356-4744 for more info.
he knows what he is talking about crappie are down

You will probably have a lot more luck at Newton. It has an great population of largemouth and you can catch some nice crappies there if you can find them. I was there about a month ago and we had 3 bass over 4 lbs and several in the 1-3 lb range. There are several laydowns along the south bank where the lake turns west toward the warm water discharge area that should hold some nice crappies.
