I have two that I use. I like them...you can see your line etc. and the black light does not spook the fish.

Excuse my ignorance. What is the purpose of the blacklight?

    Black portable lights:
Black portable lights vs. white lanterns, if you can see the fish they can see you. You will be thrilled how the black lights
light up the waters without spooking the fish and black lights will not draw the bugs. There are several types of black
lights on the market specifically made for night anglers. Cabala's has black light they are selling for around $50.00.
Many fishermen have two black lights for front and back of the boat.

    Default Night fishing with blacklights

I have a 12V blacklight with suction cups which rests on the top of my boat gunnel (sidewall) but I normally only catfish with it. Have tried crappie fishing at night in the past with the blacklight to see your line and floating white light to attract baitfish, but there's just nothing like crappie fishing during the day IMO. Anyways, back on topic here, the purpose of fishing with a blacklight at night and fishing technique is to spool all your reels with Flourescent Monofiliment line, turn off all white lights and the line going into the water, which is in front of you and the blacklight, GLOWS and seeming looks as big around as your finger! No tattle-tales, cow bells, aluminum foil needed on your poles as you can SEE your line in the dark. Again, this is generally the only way I catfish (all my cat poles are spooled with 20lb fleuro mono line) and a technique used mostly by catfisherman. I will use a small flashlight or caplight to see what I'm doing when needed but turn it off ASAP because it not only hinders my night vision but also the UV light from the blacklight illuminating the fishing lines. Hope this helps, Tom.

Incredible. I have the Nucli-Eye Extreme ($249 less $48 discount at Fisherman's Choice) and it's an incredible experience. Your line looks like ROPE and any little tick can be seen SO clearly even by a blind man! Although I've been fishing for years, black light fishing has shed a new light on line watching. I always wondered how a guide could tell a bass had hit the lure with the least little tick of a line. After black light fishing, I NOW GET IT! If you ever want to teach someone what to look for in the tick of a line, take them black light fishing!

I actually run the Nucli-Eye Extreme and the Nucli-Eye Atom at the same time to completely cover the front, side and rear fishing areas of the boat. I use the trolling motor battery but each has only 3 superbright lights and they don't use enough juice to matter and both lights will run all night (as well as the trolling motor).

I'll put up my white light and bugs against your black light any day.

If you like white lights, use 'em. The gentleman asked for input on black light fishing and I'm glad to oblige.
