I any going to get into spider rigging this year. I have a new set of Hytek rod holders to install in my boat and I have bought 4 new 11 foot B and M poles. I have four new reels to go on them too. I need some advice on line. Do a need the high vis line or not? What pound test should I go with. I plan on doing some long line trolling with these rigs as well so I want to spool them with the best line for both purposes. I want to hear from some of you guys that have experience.
I use 12 lb. high vis line for spider rigging as well as pulling crank baits.

I long line in Alabama and Indiana with 6lb to 8lb High vis mr. crappie. I notice the guides in Ala. use both clear and Hi vis. I don't really spider rig, so can't help you there.
Speck,
Sorry cant help you with spider but for long line I use 4 to 10#. It all depends on the weight jig used on the diameter of line not so much the pound test to get the depth. So saying you want a 1/16 to ride higher in the water column with a slower trolling speed use a larger diameter line. I always use clear line for the simple reason going from a high vis line to a clear for bass fishing will mess with you eyes. As for line brand we just use ande and never have had a problem with it.
Speckbuster...sounds like you purchased some top notch equipment. I can't imagine what it is going to be like out there if you start pushing 3 poles around.... geez-oh-pete ...you were murdering them last year with just one pole !
I just started dabbling with pushing last yr. As for line... I use 4lb fireline on everything out of habit...I would think 4 - 8 range is plenty unless you plan on catching more of those 25 lb carp and a 13 inch crappie at the same time on a double jig rig. There's enough rod there to play them out and using a net, doesn't require a lot of line strength. Now , if you are slinging 2 fish over the side of the boat at once...that's a diff story. Come to think of it...you may want to go 8 lb with those double jig rigs and and something tough :D
For me... important thing is to be able to see the tips of your pole. Some guys paint their tips for better visability. I believe that is more important than the hi vis line for trolling. Also...just keeping the rod tips down close to water line helps. Of course, you have to watch to not push your line back into your trolling motor . It'll be fun to see you out there pushing.
