Thought I'd try a little something different yesterday and went to Waveland for crappie. I have bass fished the lake a lot, but never tried for crappie. I've heard mixed reports this year. Only had about 10 boats on the lake. Water was stained and running 56-57 degrees. Was a gorgeous day to be out, but probably not the best day to chase crappie. Absolutely no wind and crystal clear skies. Made for easy boat control though.
Ended up with 2 dozen crappie, all on jigs. Twenty-two of them were cookie cutter 8.5" fish. Must have been a good year class spawned 2 years ago. The other two were blacks of 11" and 12" respectively. Possibly the fattest, thickest fish I've seen all year. If a guy could only figure out how to whack these larger fish out there, he'd be a happy camper. More pre-frontal type weather might be a start.
"Big Indiana Bass"
nice catch
The fishing was good,it was the catching that was bad
it was about the same for me last week we ran into 15 or so of them big 14 in. and boy they are fat. like you said just finding a school of nice ones like that makes a good mess
Nice report T9. I would take a 12 inch black crappie over a 15 inch white crappie any day. Blacks just seem to be belly to back taller and much thicker. It's always nice to find them in some of the lesser known lakes.

I live within 10 miles of Waveland and my prop has not came in yet. (sob sob) It is a pretty good lake and I hope to get there before it freezes over. Nice catch on the crappies. They are always very meaty when you catch them Fishinfred
Nice blacks! I should have went out sunday instead of watching a terrible nascar race.

Glad to see that you made it out! I thought the weather was going to be windy when I checked it on Thursday, so I didn't plan on fishing this weekend. As it ended up, it was all that I could do to keep my mind off of fishing. I guess I have the crappie fever.
Nice fish again. I thought that they closed that lake down around this time of year. I was over there when they had it drained down and it looked like all of the old stumps were gone, just a few big rocks laying around here and there. It's hard to believe that the bass and crappie are doing so good there especially after they stocked it with muskies.
Drew. it was sent to Muncie and do not know when it will be back. I had a new one sent from California but it was a different pitch and would not work on the motor shaft without an adapter to be able to tighten the prop nut. They ordered an adapter but I am still waiting. (BUMMER) I may have to wait on the ice. Thanks for asking and good fishing. Fishinfred
