I headed back out to Cataract today for another chance at the crappies. Hit the ramp at 11:00 and met Lee to find 7 rigs in the lot. As we got launched, 3 more pulled right up behind us. Still, there was very little traffic on the lake overall. When we left at 5:00 there were just 2 others still left in the lot.
First thing we noticed is that they had pulled the crap out of the water since Thursday afternoon when we were there last. Checking the Corps website, the lake is down 1.5' below pool and falling about 1' every 24 hours. Even with that yanking of the water, the clarity was better on the State Park side than we had 2 days ago - much better actually. Water temps on the surface have now cooled to 58 degrees. The good news is the bite is still on. Actually, it's getting better every day. All told we had 140 (+/- 5) crappies to the boat today. We whacked them pretty goodEasily 4 limits of 9" or better fish could have been had, but we were there for learning and fun, so everything was released back into the lake. Also got 4 bonus largemouth including one about 16". Tube jigs and curly tails for all.
