Default Hit Patoka today

I fished Patoka today for the first time this year with a friend of mine and his 9 year old son. Haven't had time to fish much this year with a 2 year old and another 2 1/2 weeks old. Had alot of fun taking my friends son with us since he had never crappie fished before. We ended up keeping 37 fish, mostly between 8"-10". Probably threw back 50 dinks, and we only fished for 3 hours. I'll try to post some pictures when I get them on the computer. Most of them were caught on minnows under bobbers, and a few on jigs tipped with minnows. Fished in 17' of water between 8'-12' down. Watching my friends son get so excited catching crappie makes me want to take my boys already, even though they have a few years before they can hit the lake with the guys!

Been reading up on Patoka Lake some. Seems like the lake gives up some nice crappie in the Spring ---3lb. How is it in the Fall? And, are the bridges low to the water like down south, say Alabama? Shorter distance than running to Ky. Lake for me.

Thanks Ken! Painter Creek comes up often as the place to fish. Think I'll wait for a good Fall day, since I will be purchasing out of state license.

Can you pay by the day instead of getting a permit?

No, you have to buy an annual permit, but they are only $20. You can get it online at in.gov/dnr or at the main office at Patoka. But make sure you have it or you will get a ticket.
