Default Heat!

Anybody getting any in this miserable heat? Mid 90's everyday, and humid as it can be. Only a couple good hours every morning before it sets in. Looks like it will be night fishing for me until we get a break in this weather, or maybe try a little wade fishing.

How do you deal with the mosquitos Ken? That and the fact that I am a morning person makes it tough for me to do night fishing.

Default Hot Weather Fishing

I was out Friday afternoon. Was hot but I was bank fishing in the shade. Caught about 2 dozen bluegill of which I kept 8 and threw the rest back. Didn't seem to be anything else biting (except a soft shell turtle) but all I had with me was nightcrawlers. Don't know if anything would have been hitting minnows or artificials.

Went last night and did fairly well under the full moon. Caught a few nice gills, a couple nice cats, and brought home about 20 nice crappie. A decent night overall. Sorry, forgot to take camera, no pics.

High Tide,

I caught the fish on a 2" tube. Using crappie nibbles. I have been having good luck at Geist and Morse too, a lot of days in the summer it helps to tip the jigs with a minnow.

I too have done well at Morse lately during the week... same set-up as your using, tubes (glow and white and sparkle) tip with crappie bites (white)... I gave up on live bait for crappie, just don't need it anymore, plastics just keep getting better and better. Thanks for the reply.

If you don't mind a response from a buckeye, I love to crappie fish this time of year. I've been doing really well in Southwest Ohio on minnows under a slip float. I fish them similar to the way a lot of guys fish with jigs. Just pitch them to cover with a long pole, going tree to tree, stump to stump in deep water or even mid depths close to deep water or channel drops. You can fish them as shallow or deep as you want by moving the bobber stop up or down. Right now the magic depth has been around 4 to 6 feet deep over 12'-20' feet of water here at East Fork, which I understand fishes a lot like Brookville in SE Indiana. I have also been casting Southern Pro hot grubs in the evenings when the shad come to the top with pretty good success. This time of year though, or anytime really, I never go on the lake without minnows.
