Default Blue Grass FWA and Sugar Ridge FWA

Did a little bit of panfishing on Blue Grass pit yesterday. Didn't really have any luck except a handful of dinks, a decent channel cat and a mud cat. Has anyone fished the other pits there that have boat ramps and if so is it really worth stopping in???

Also I did some mushroom hunting up at Sugar Ridge this spring and several of the little pits there didn't look too bad but have never thrown a line in any of them so anybody that has tried any of them with any tips would be greatly appreciated!!!

Tom

I have caught some crappie and bluegill from Bass Pit near Stendale. Probably ought to catch all the fish out of them from what I have heard they will re strip that area for coal soon. From what I have seen it appears to be true there has been a lot of logging going on there. Actually I heard from a game warden its a done deal. Nothing anyone can do about it cause its owned by the coal company and leased to dnr.

Yeah I saw a lot of clear cutting going on around the south side of area 6 so I figured they were doing something. Makes for a good place to mushroom hunt though with all the spoil mounds!!!

Tried Bethel Pit first and didn't really have any luck besides a few tiny bass. No bluegill action at all. I had went the a week prior and caught quite a few right by the boat ramp and cleaned them. Took the boat there yesterday and got a look at the rest of the pit (looking for gills and see if we could get a couple of the rainbows that they stocked in there) and didn't catch anything except right by the boat ramp again... lol Could have saved the gas on hauling it up there. Then we headed to Bass pit and circled the entire pit and didn't catch anything that was of keeper size until we got back and fished the boat ramp again!!! haha I saw several boats at beaver pit so maybe the fishing is better there???

I have seen a lot of fisherman at Beaver as well but thats all I know about it. I was going to fish it once but at that time it looked like a hassle to launch the boat I had.

It was really a hassle! I have a john boat with a 40hp on it so it sits a little bit low anyway but you can't troll trough all the crap at the beginning. You have to row and push off the bottom for about 40 yards to get out in the "clear" part of the lake. It looked like it had excellent structure in it to hold crappie and we caught one little dink but didn't pick up anything on the fishfinder over the structure. There are entire trees still standing up from the bottom that have most of their branches and haven't caved in yet. I will probably hit it again in the spring before the weeds get out of hand and drop some minnows down in them. The ones with the concrete ramps have been really easy launching even though they are really short. They have a really good gravel base at the end of them to roll off onto.
