Default Bait shop minnows

Is it just me, or does it seem that to work at a bait shop you have to not know how to count? Every time I buy minnows I feel like I dont get anywhere near the amount of bait I pay for. I know that somebody is not going to count each minnow out, but come on. 8 dozen looks like 5 dozen, 4 dozen looks like 2. I wish there was somewhere around here I could but them by the pound.

Default Cheaper by the pound

Hey Locator:

Sawyer's Bait in Charlestown sells 'em by the pound. If you think you are getting shorted though, never be afraid to ask "Is that eight dozen"? Most times they will top it off if they think it is short. You may want to count them to be sure, but most times there never looks like very many to me when it really is.

Default Bait Shop

Hey Locator:

Go straight up 62, and turn left on Hwy 3 at the light into Charlestown. Sawyer's will be on the right about a block and a half up the road. They charge $11.50/lb. for crappie minnows (thats about 200 depending upon size). That works out to be about $0.69/dozen. They will put them in a large plastic bag for $1.00 more. They are open 7am-6pm Monday-Saturday, and 7am-4pm on Sunday.

I am originally from Charlestown, now living in Greenwood south of Indy. I plan to fish Hardy next weekend (haven't been there in years). Sounds like you have been killing them up there. If you would, please PM me with some tips or if you plan to go there next weekend let me know and we could meet up and split a pound.

Unhappy Minnows

When my brother and I go to Northern Michigan and get 6 dozen minnows, the bucket is often black with them there are so many and we fish all day. Around here, not so much.

Talking

Every year in the 2nd week of June my brother and I go near Wellston, which is west of Cadillac, on the reservior above Tippy Dam for 2 weeks for crappie, smallies, northerns, and walleye.
Great place to fish. Lots of cover. Unspoiled scenery. During the week you might not see anybody else on the water. It's worth the trip.
