Default Mississinewa Spillway - Walleye

I went out last night and nabbed this 28 inch, 8 lb walleye at the Mississinewa spillway..Only fish of the night for about 4 hours of fishing, but it was all I needed! About knocked my socks off....

Scale dropped to 8 pounds even, and the size chart calls for 8.1 pounds at 28 inches. Given the two 6 inch shad in her belly and handful of minnows, I'd say we're pretty darn close!

Congrats on a nice walleye! If you don't mind me asking what did you catch it on?

I read on here in another post that "anything with a minnow profile will do". See "Salamonie Res. and Miss. River". I had a few of these in my box so I tied on a Rapala original floater. Brighter colors seem to work best. They're hitting just a few feet from shore as you're taking your last few cranks. The bite is pretty slow, but well worth it.

Rogues work well....had a couple hits on husky jerks also.

TDH, I thought about a mount....but I decided I'll hold off for a bigger one . I kept the head anyways! Trying to dry it out. Sure would have looked nice though. Caught fish this size by the dozen near Bismarck, ND last year. I've not heard of anyone taking a fish this size from the Mississinewa, but then again, I don't hear much! A guy got a 7 pounder from the lake last year, I know that much. I am sure they are few and far between like this in the area, though I've heard of 5-6 pounders consistently. I am one of the lucky ones.
