Default Cataract 10/15

Got the once a month chance to get out through the week and decided to take advantage of it even with the weather. Rain had stopped early this morning, and the radar looked clean. Got my meetings over with early and met a friend out there around 1:00. Northeast breeze between 5-10 mph, cloudy skies and temps in the low 40's. Only had 5 rigs in the lot when we pulled in and no one left but us when we left at 5:30.

Things might start stabilizing out there soon based on what we saw today. Water still stained on the State Park side, visibility less than a foot but continues to get clearer as you head toward the narrows and over to the Cunot side. Surface temps down to 59 degrees according to the Lowrance.

Bite was on after a little trial and error. Final tally was a double limit between us of 9.5" fish or better. Not a lot of small ones today, fortunately. Ended up tossing a limit in the well of 10.5" or better fish. Best of the day was just over 12" but we had a lot of 11's. Tube jigs on 1/16 - 3/32-oz. heads were the deal for us, again anything with chartreuse seeming to be best.

Thanks for the information. It may come in handy on Sunday. Did you catch more on the on the Cunot side or State Park side? Water depth and fishing depth?

Nice report #9. I think glow head jigs would work well in that stained water, maybe. Sounds like things are looking up. I am looking forward to a little more stable weather...although as I was working outside today, kept thinking to myself this looked like a good fishing day. Are you guys using floats, or tight lining the tubes? Still in deep water or heading toward banks yet?

Don't have glow heads, but do have glow bodies and they were working today. Figure not too many people have them in their boxes. They are starting to head towards the banks. Sunday was best on Cunot side in 12'-20' tightlining, but today was better for us in 12' and less on some of the windblown banks on State Park side, on the cast.

Yep, now that he's retired he's been spending a lot more time out there with the rest of you guys. Was good fishing with him again yesterday. Bite was so good we're going again on Saturday Think you've put so many attractors out you must have forgot about one or two (LOL). Think our best spot yesterday was one of yours based on how it was graphing and the way we were snagging baits Guessing you've forgot about it since there were so many biting crappie around it. Got to love those Lowrances (but can't wait to see your 'Bird in action).

Looks like Lee didn't have time to play his guitar for you! Nice mess of fish. Between the two of you there can't be many good spots you don't know about! Chartruse was good for me too along with a perch colored minnow bait. Wish I could get down there this weekend but it looks like Tuesday for me.

Nice job and thanks for the report. I think I will try and make it down Monday afternoon and Tuesday morning. I will be in a Crestliner with a force motor on it. Hope to see you there. Good luck to anyone that goes this weekend but (PLEASE leave a few for me.) lol Fishinfred
