I wouldn't spend the money on it. too many good lakes, not that much futher away. I have caught some nice crappie in silver creek leading to the lake.

Very good crappie fishing. Permit fee is well worth it. Pricey for other than 62249 zip but worth it. Crappie real good.

I think there is a 25 horse limit on the lake. I had a permit a few years ago, and I caught 25 to 1 dinks to keeps. Maybe it's changed since then. I bought the permit after hearing there were some good crappie in the lake...ten or so trips there produced two 13 inchers and a zillion small ones. Good luck.

i dunno about better then carlyle...thats one thing i dont under stand...everyone downs carlyle but if you spend the time on the lake and get to learn it, its a great lake and very nice size crappie....you just got to remember they got24,590 acres of water to roam...but crappie always return to the same spots and once you learn them the fishing is great...but it sounds like silver lake isnt worth the money...i like to fish for big fish not fill the cooler
