Default Bad Economy...Do toys go first?

Just wanting to get everyone's opinion on the economy. Do you think when things get bad(high gas prices, stock market, jobs, ect) that people willing really start letting go of some of the things they dont really need. Things like boats,ATV's,motorcycles. You would think that alot of people would be getting pretty hard up for money. I know I sure am! HAHA

I don't have a boat yet. I fish out of a float tube. So I don't have to worry about getting rid of the boat. However I have been wanting to buy a decent boat for some time now and I completely put that on hold with the economy the way it is

You have to do whats best for the family..Even if means giving up every toy you own. You will still have your family and friends long after the toys have come and gone.

I agree with this, but from the 3 hours at the boat shop I can't tell that times are tough, Lord there must have been 100 people in and out looking to buy, and I was told that sales were doing great?

I would think things would be sold off in the order in which they are used and treasured. Like for instance if one doesn't fish but once a year the boat may go. If one fishes all the time and has an old car that he puts in a parade once a year the car may go.

If things get bad for one person and they say the entire country is doing bad then who is going to have the money to buy these toys that people are trying to sell????????I ran into this when i tried to sell my powerboat last year when i couldnt afford to run it

Sold my 14' utility trailer this weekend with hopes of buying a kicker motor for my boat. The first time in many, many year I don't overtime available at work to buy toys with. So it seemed like the only way to make it possible was to look for something to sell.

So long trailer, hello motor (I hope). I'll never sacrifice my family's needs to buy toys.

I also got hit with the overtime reduction and other cuts to the tune of $15000+ this year. My plan is to not sell anything that is fully paid for and just maintain what I have . No new purchases, less fishing/camping trips away, and more local fishing/day trips. It will take a toll on my savings contributions for a while but I can't see getting rid of the things that I love to do as long as it doesn't bankrupt me Good side is another payment gone here in a couple months and the truck is MINE!!!
