The Army Corps of Engineers will be holding its annual Christmas tree drop on Saturday March 7, 2009 at about 8:00 am. This years location of the trees are at the Carlyle Lake Associations parking lot. There are about 1500 trees to be placed at various areas of the lake. The Carlyle Lake Public Hunting & Fishing Association will be present with volunteer boats and personel but 1500 trees is a lot of nescessary work if you expect to catch crappie at Carlyle Lake. We are sending out a plea for volunteers from the public sector both those with boats and those who could work tying and loading weights.
The Carlyle Lake Public Hunting & Fishing Association Inc. is hoping to be able to supply some deer chilli and hot chocolat to those who volunteer, this is not 100% approved yet so watch for updates on food and drink.
Bottom line is if you fish Carlyle Lake you know there is very little structure or natural cover, but there are crappie and these Christmas trees offer up that structure and cover.
For information call the Corps office at 618-594-2484 or call Carlyle Lake Public Hunting & Fishing Association at 618-669-2917 or 618-792-1896.
The Carlyle Lake Public Hunting & Fishing Association will be putting on a large crappie contest for this year for members only. Check us out you may want to participate as a member and have some fun at the same time.

Thanks Extreme.
I have more information anyway. The drop will take place March 7th the following Saturday will be the day in the event it rains on the 7th. Carlyle Lake Public Hunting & Fishing Assoc. Inc. will be serving hot deer chilli and hot chocolate while it lasts. We have several boats committed but more would be appreciated. Individuals to bundle and tie trees on shore are also needed to make this an easy and tireless event. So if you can possibly make it the whole of public fishing at Carlyle Lake will more than appreciate it.
Hope to see you all there

A last minute change by the A.C.O.E. the Christmas tree drop has been moved from the Carlyle Lake Association parking lot to Allen Branch due to a high wind advisory for Saturday. Allen Branch will be workable. Still the same thing improve habitat have some fun make some new aquaitances some chilli and other food. If all the boats show that have committed it should not take long to get the job done.

I would like to throw out a big big thank you to the A.C.O.E for making it possible to have this tree drop in the first place. Many Corps personell came out on a pretty nice Saturday providing heavy machinery to move 25 lbs wieghts by the hundreds and pushing the approximate 1500 trees to where dozens of Carlyle Highshool science club students worked for extra credit and work they did. I would like to thank their teachers who also put their backs to hauling trees bundled in groups of four to the waters edge where 13 boats made dozens of trips each to deposite their loads in strategic crappie locations. I want to thank my Carlyle Lake Public Hunting & Fishing Assoc. Inc members who numbered around 30 with thier nine boats and thanks to others who I suppose came from reading this post. We started at 8:00 am and it was done at 11:40 am At this time Chilli of different types hot dogs and all the trimmings were served. This show how if the public gets involved things can get done and done quickly. Thnaks again.
