    Question Shelbyville or Grenada

I have never been to Shelbyville, but just looking at the last couple of months post, it would seem that Shelbyville is one of the better fisheries ( if not the best ) at this time. It looks like catching a limit of crappie on this lake is a good probability any time you fish it. Is this true?

Which lake would you rather fish Shelbyville or Grenada?

Shelbyville or Grenada???? If I lived 20 minutes from Gren. I would resent having to get to any ramp before daylight just to get a parking spot when the fish are biting and then there is the problem of wind, extreme water fluctuations, long hot summers, trot lines for catfish and the dang cottonmouths. On the other hand, I would never mount another 3-4. It would have to weigh 4lbs. When Shelby is on, you can run around from ANY ramp and find a pattern, but there is a lot of local pressure that you will have to deal with. Right now, today, half the guys are getting limits in a couple hours and the rest are having trouble finding anything. It can be a tough lake for visitors, but we are always willing to PM if you ask and anything over 13 inches is a nice fish. My advice,,,,,if you can see it,,,,,it has already been fished,,,,twice. My choice,,,Grenada is nice to visit, but near Shelbyville is where I would live.

Huck - Probably the best time for taking larger crappie, 11 to 14 inches in length, is from October until the lake ices over in January. In summer it can be difficult to take a limit of fish over ten inches without catching 50 or more under 10 inches. After ice out through spawn, larger fish can be taken with regularity, but I find fall fishing still produces larger fish for me. However, your chances of taking two to three pound crappie like Grenada produces is just about nil. I have been fishing Shelbyville for the past 36 years and have taken only two crappie that went 15 inches. I have heard of larger fish than that being taken, but it is rare and not common practice.

ill stick with clinton lol. almost no matter what you can catch something.. if crappie arent biting you can catch whites if whites aint biting then you can catch walleyes or stripers or if despereate lake is full of bass and catfish.

Grenada has hogs you wont find around here. When you hook one it fights like a bass and will sometimes even jump out of the water. Its sometimes hard to fish, but you can't beat the quality. You can look in your livewell and from the top they appear to be bass. If you have never been you need to go.

Good feedback, I appreciate the info. Yes, I plan on going to Grenada or Sardis in the next few years. I believe the 12 inch size limit on those lakes should make for some great fishing by then.

Grenada hands down. Nothing wrong with Shelbyville but you can't beat Grenada. Clint and I went there back in March and wade fished. I caught the biggest fish of my life there. We fished for several days and I bet we only threw back 4 or 5 fish the entire time. And that is because they did not meet the size limit. They were keepers but there they have to be 12 inches to keep. If I live in MS that is where I would go every day.
The only bad thing about Grenada is that it is a flood control lake and it can be at any depth just about any time. 204 or 205 is what I would think is the perfect depth of the lake.
