    Default hunting question

Some friends and myself have considered a deer hunting trip to Illinois. We have heard you are restricted on rifles there. Can someone fill me in on what kind of rifles are or are not allowed in Illinois?

    Thanks!

Default No rifle deer season in Ill

Only muzzle loader, shotgun, bow, pistol or cross bow. Too bad, lotta deer here.

No center fire rifles are legal in il at all. You can only use a muzzle loader .45 cal or larger including inline. Shotgun is legal with slugs only 20 gauge to 10 gauge only. And handguns are legal as long as it is .30 cal or larger and prduces a certain amount of energy at the muzzle. There are a few other restrictions on all firearms I listed but tht is the basics.
    Hope this helps.

Turkeyfootnc... Deer hunting in Illinois is restricted to any high power rifle. You can only use a slug gun, muzzle-loader, or a hand gun for the firearm deer seasons. My suggestion to you is to go to the IDNR website for all the additional information you will need for your hunt, hope you have great time and safe hunt...FF http://dnr.state.il.us/

We don't need a rifle season in IL. There are too many idiots out there the way it is. So for there to be guys out there with .300 Win mags or a .375HH is just rediculious.
Don't get me wrong Gone Fishn, I'm not refering to you or anyone on this thread. But it's not the weapon used for the number of deer. The state needs keep the buck tags as is and let resident hunters buy their tags over the counter and allow more doe tags to be purchased.
My avitar shows a deer my 9 year old at the time shot with his muzzle loader in the 2006 muzzle loader season. So if a nine year old can do it anyone should be able to. This deer was shot at 130 yards in an open field and it was rough scored at 168 6/8 inches.

Turkeyfootnc if you get to draw a buck tag here in IL that is what you have to look forward to.
Hope you get to come and hunt.

I am glad deer hunting season is over in Illinois. I hunt squirrel dogs in the daytime and was in fear of some trigger happy idiot shooting one of my expensive dogs. There is plenty of deer, I see them almost every day.
