Kinkaid in April
A friend and I plan on going down to Kinkaid sometime in early April for some crappie and musky fishing for 4 days. I was wondering if that is usually a good time to try for crappies. I've seen some pictures of some real hogs people have caught out of there, so we're looking forward to it.

Kinkaid does indeed hold some really big crappie, as well as musky. As far as the time your going, it will of course all depend on the weather. Kinkaid is deep and fairly clear...so it doesnt warm up as fast as a shallower lake like crab orchard would. Look for lay downs and fish all of them you can find. Thats a good pattern to start with for a newcomer to the lake. Fish the end of them in deeper water and also shallow up and try the shallower parts of them too if no luck out on the ends. You should catch fish for sure. Pretty lake too.

The third week in April is a great time to be on Kinkaid. I cant say about the muskies, but try fishing up by the water plant. I took a 3lbs 1oz crappie from there a few years back. Another good spot is when you get out of the marina take a right and go as far back in the back cove that you will see. Start at the back and work your way out to deeper water. I am certain by the time you are out of there you will have a livewell full.
