Had a return client today that fished with me in December. We put in at coal shaft about 11:00 and fished till 3:00. Water temp. still around 37* and somewhat stained in some spots, wind 10-20 mph out of the southwest. This was the perfect set up for a ambush in the same area we had fished together before. Once we got there and rounded the corner of a point my Garmin come alive with bait fish, all in about 10-12 feet of water. I knew right then we had a good chance to fill the live well, and we did just that. We had are 20 fish limit in 2 1/2 hours, simple just combined them in that spot. Didn't see another boat in that area all afternoon.

Way to go FF nice looking mess of fish.
can't catch'em at home
Crappieken... The two biggest fish were right at 13 inch's. All the fish were caught on 1/32 oz red & chartreuse Jigs over brush. You must have three ingredients for this to work, one.. is wind, you need the wind to position the shad close to a bank that has the river Chanel close by, this is a must this time of year, no bait usually means no bite. Two... calm water and brush close by, Crappie will not stay in current the wind creates for a long period of time so they will look for calm water and cover were the can get a easy meal. Three... is sunlight it is not as critical as the other two but it will make the fish more aggressive and move them up in the water column. You will notice as it warms up you will start to see more and more fish in the three to five foot range. When this happens you must back off and put on a cork. You cannot put your boat over the top of this fish for the simple reason is, the bigger ones will spook. It's like you take a nice buck this time of year, he will bed close to his food source and get up and feed in the middle of the day when the sun is the warmest to conserve energy for the colder nights, but you get on top of him, he's gone... Hope this helps when you're out on winter water the next time.
