I'm thinking about going to Reelfoot in February. I've looked up old post from you guys and need some more input. Is February a good month or am I wasting time waiting for March/April. Will I be satisfied with a resort boat or should I take my own. Any suggestions will be helpful. Thanks.
Hey Mark, you should contact someone down there to see how the water level is before you plan on going. I know it was very low a while back and everyone had a hard time getting around all the stumps. I never go that early in the year to fish. I go a few times in the spring beginning in May to bluegill fish but never this early.
If you have never been be careful that lake can be very dangerous. I always take my own boat. If you rent a boat to use it will not have a trolling motor on it unless you bring one or just rent on extra.
Hope this helps.

Feb is a great month usually on the Foot. You will be happier with your own boat. Just idle. Lake is at full pool now.
No need to worry about water level now...that dude is acutally ABOVE pool now, and has been for about 3 weeks. I went down Thanksgiving weekend and did my first Spider Rig Tolling in my boat...man was it fun! I have a buddy down there that I talk to daily. In fact, there's a couple guys he knows fishing today wearin em out! I am penciled in to go at least 2 weekends in Feb, then in March, then April and May....my 2cents.....if you want a nice resort...stay at SouthShore Resort....and...for anyone who doesn't know yet...the plan at Southshore Resort is to CLOSE the Pier restaurant....PERMANENTLY!....(that's a drag).

Greg, I just heard about the The Pier closing last night while playing cards with my fishing buddies. That IS a drag -- having the restaurant there really made things convenient. I heard, though, that they may keep some sort of a kitchen open for take-out breakfast. Breakfast on the lake doesn't sound too bad as long as the weather cooperates...Originally Posted by Bails

Yeah, talked to Rick about a month ago when I went...it's definately closed, and last week of November down there...had the WHOLE place to myself!!!
Ghost town USA...it was nice though...Rick said the "talks" are to turn it into a LODGE...but, also have some type of "make to order" service restaurant......Maybe I should buy one of those Hot Dog Stands and set it up down there? hehe...I tell you what though...having food right there made it dang nice...can go down for a week and never have to look for my truck keys...walk everywhere...recent years, we cook almost all our meals but breakfest....not that big of a deal...just add breakfest to the cook meals!
Thanks for the input. LOZCRAPPIE, I'll be yelling at you closer to June. Coming to LOZ.
I think there is money to be made serving food in Samburg -- it's just something that has to be set up right to be able to handle the wide swings in fishing/hunting traffic. If your hot dog stand sells fish sandwiches and country ham biscuits, I'll stand in line!
Mark, feel free to drop me a line when you're heading down to LOZ. I'm primarily a dock fisherman down there but there are a number of great fisherman on the Missouri board who know the lake well such as Bugman, Mr. Baker and others. Check in over there and we'll tell you what's going on at LOZ at the time.
Take care,
