    Default Reelfoot lake??

If you were going for your first trip there would you take your own boat or rent one? I like my own boat but not sure how I would do with those stumps mine is a deep V lund Alaskan. Any recommendations for a resort to stay at.

I agree with you I have tangled with those stumps myself on that lake. I swore if I ever went back I would rent a boat instead.
I think there is a place called Blue Bank resort that is very nice.

Problem with Blue bank is the boats are small and the out boards are smaller..I think they're 16' jons with 9.9 motors. I took my V bottom couple times without any problems. I'm just more comfortable in my own boat with all my equipment. I like staying at Boyett's, room to park your boat, walking distance to couple nice restaurants and not far to launch.

I have stayed at Blue Bank Resort a few times and always used their boats. Lake is covered with stumps and standing timber. The 16" jon boats with the 9.9 were good enough to get around in and you didn't have to worry about tearing the hell out of your boat.

Respect the lake and you should be fine. I've made a few weekend trips to the foot, none of which my boat ever got on plane. Idle everywhere, don't go out in 3' rollers and how much damage can you really do? Boyett's is nice enough for me, and in a good location. Can't beat the price either.

I checked with a local guy once and I asked if I should bring a 16' John or my 20' bass boat. He said bring what you are comfortable fishing out of. I again asked which one. He said "you aren't going to do anything but idle so bring what is most comfortable." I brought the bass boat and never looked back. I now have a SeaArk 240 and wouldn't leave home without it. The only problem I would encounter now is if I was trying to fish the trees it might be a little long to weave in and out of them. That would be the only minor problem.

Have been there a number of times. Took my boat once which I would not recommend. There have been many lower units and motors torn up not to mention hull damage on this lake by visitors. Have stayed at three different places. I've stayed at Cypress Point Resort the most which is good and so is Blue Bank. I would say Cypress Point is more customer friendly and more responsive. As chickenguy said don't venture out on this lake with high winds or impending bad weather. I've done so and paid the price. Great lake, fishery, and beautiful.

If I had to do it again, I would probably rent a boat. Cost me a prop on our visit.
