Hi,
I may be purchasing a new jon boat + trailer....My 16 ft bass tracker got damaged in a wreck onto the way to Coffeen this past winter...
Does anyone have any recommendations on what kind of jon boat?..Have been looking online at the lowe jon boats and tracker roughnecks..
I am looking to get 15ft or 16 ft...
I have a 25hp hand tiller engine to put on it..

A Tracker 1648 is listed at $2,299.00 + $100.00 freight and $965.00 for a trailer...that's pretty hard to beat. I'm sure Lowe is somewhere in the ballpark with Tracker.
jcd...I've got a 08 Lowe roughneck 1652 with a 25 Merc tiller on it. Very happy with it, came with large front deck, a floor and I bought the otional deck for the back that folds up. Its wide, stable and fun to fish out of. The 25 pushes it around just fine.
Tracker 1648 is what im getting ready to get...perfect for what i need
get my number from nate and ill get you hooked up on a war eagle....brand new but cheaper then everyone

Only you can decide what you need (or want). Too many variables here. How you fish, where you fish, multi species v. targeted species, What your budget is. Do you want a package boat (like a tracker) or do you want a plain jane that can be taylored to your needs. Riveted boat or welded boat? New or Used....?
Shop around, compare prices and make the choice based on how you think you'll best use it. You won't find any one boat that does everything well - but you can probably find one pretty easily to meet most of your needs.
I ran a 1652 Polarkraft for a long time mated to a 35 tiller. Great rig and it changed hands twice after me before a tornado tossed on top of another boat at a storage facility up at Mark Twain. So ended that one... But I have a similar rig in my barn now that belongs to a buddy of mine. It's an early 80's boat.
I would say try to get maybe one that's .10 guage aluminum and if you go with a 16 - then I'd prefer the wider 52" bottom as opposed to 48". But again - you may need the narrower boat for how and where you fish.
Good luck
Hello my name is rippin lips and i have a fishing problem. Now thats out of the way i was reading your post and i will agree that the 1648 is a great boat for the jack. Also i have a 17.5 ft trailer that i am wanting to sell for 150. Its has all new wiring led (brake turn running lights) as well as a new set of bearing buddies title in hand and i live in wood river illionis. You could pm me and leave me ur email adress and i will send pics. Good luck on the boat hunt...
Also If you do go 15 or 16ft the trailer is adjustable winch and front roller so it would fit with minor adjustments.
Years ago a wise old man told me to buy the biggest boat and motor I could afford--did,nt take his advise and keep trading--Could have saved money by listenin to him
