    Default Ice Fishin 1-5-10

Dad and I ventured out about 2ish today to a new pond we have never fished. Started catching fish right away and stayed steady till we left about 445. We had a blast out there and caught a bunch of gills, some bass, and even some bonus crappies. Seemed like every gill we caught was giant (to us) and we brought home 10 gills and 6 crappies. We had one gill that was just 8.5" but all the others were over 9" as for the crappies the smallest was 11.25 and the other five were 12" or better! Those were the only crappies we got. Awesome day on the water and even got some humor out of ol pops bustin his butt on the ice haha! There was 6" of good ice and we were catching them on little ice jig heads tipped with waxies and on little nipper jigs with a waxie.

Great job Tyler! I love them bonus crappie. You had alot better luck than I did yesterday. Looks like we are going have some good ice for a while. If its going to be winter, than it might as well be cold enough to ice fish!

Nice catch! What are you guys using for cutting the hole?
If people concentrated on the really important things in life, there'd be a shortage of fishing poles.

Great looking catch. I didn't know gills got that big.
Where would someone find ponds to fish? Around here it seems all of the ponds are on private land or belong to a club.

    Nice catch.

I hope you guys were wearing your fur lined jocks, it would have been just a little too cold for me. I am not even hunting my squirrel dogs or rabbit dogs even though season is still in, it is just too cold!

We just use a manual mora strikemaster ice auger with a 7" blade. It gets the job done for no longer than we have ice around here every year.

Floater- Most all ponds are private or club owned. Maybe try and find some interstate ponds. I got permission to fish this pond through my athletic director at school.
