Kevin Van Dam Was Using Lowrance And Now Is Using Hummingbird. Maybe Lowrance Isn't As Good. I Guess In The Next Few Months We'll Know.

I just purchased a Hummingbird and am using it in Florida this month. Will post more as I use it.

I Fished With Lsg, And He Has A Humminbird. He Had The Smaller Screen, Then Updated To The Larger One. It's Awesome. Shows Stumps Rocks Etc. When You Go Past The Boat Ramps It Shows The Concrete Steps., When We Were On Ky. Lake, The Stake Beds Really Popped Out. It's Like Cheating. Steve Loves His Toys.

All the new Hbird imaging models will have down imaging 2010 and there will be free software updates for down imaging and slow gps fix for the older 997s and 1197s some time this month.

I was kicking myself when I heard it was only 500 but then somebody informed me it is just for the software and you have to purchase one of Lowrance's HDS units. I got the 798 si for 860, it works very well. I don't really have an opinion because I have a Lowrance on the front and it works very well also.

    Default Lowrance Down Scan

I put a structure scan and an HDS 10 on the boat a couple of weeks ago. Only got to take it out one time before it got too cold for me. The side scan seems to be about the same as the H-bird. The down scan is great. It is almost like looking at a brown and white photo of what is down there. I could easily make out fish and structure. Can't wait til spring.

Think about what you just said and then throw in a variable or 2. What did Van Dam use up till his recent jump to HB? Using that technology, where did it get him? What that thought in mind....and both companies making a product that provides a working solution for the angler, what could possibly be the motivating factor to make him make that "jump"? hmmm....could it be money and/or power? The 2 things that motivate so much of our society.

Making it simple....Tom makes a pair of boots and pays John $5 to wear them. The boots keep his feet warm and dry. Jack suggests to John that he wear the boots that he made and will pay him $10. The boots keep his feet warm and dry.

    Just my educated guess.
