Default Anyone making jigs out there?

I am heading to Bass Pro Shops on Saturday to get some supplies to start making some jig heads. Anyone got any tips or advice they would like to share......molds,lead melting pots, powder paint??? Thanks.

    Merry Christmas DKB.
I'm very interested to see what you find out with this thread, as I too am thinking about making my own jig heads. Sounds like a good hobby for those days I just can't get out.
    Have a great holiday.

I use the pro tec powder paint on my quik set jig heds, it works great. If you bake them in oven after u paint them the finish is very durable and doesnt chip off.

Yep, BPS is high. I get a lotta stuff from Jann's Netcraft in Ohio. Rod Building Supplies | Lure Making Supplies | Fly Tying Supplies | Fishing Hooks

    You won't beat Killers offer of $15 / 1000 though I'd say.
Have good ventilation when pourin lead.
Wear eye protection & leather boots at least. I had an electric pot full of lead blow up on me one time. I was wearin safety glasses, boots and Carhartts, it saved me.
Keep the kids and dogs away, if that pot gets knocked over...somebody's hurt.
Clean, pure lead will produce best results but I use what ever I can get for free too.
Preheat molds and keep em warm thereafter for better pours. I use the flat top of the pot itself or the wood burner top during winter. Cold molds cool the lead too fast and the cavity will not fill.
Sprue clippers work better than wire cutters for trimmin, but don't cut no wire with them sprue clippers, lead only.
Bottom pour pots won't tolerate trash / debris. Better use good, clean lead in them. I have a hand pourer and I can melt old wheel weights, sewer and roof flashins (free crap).
I use a Dremel to modify molds. Example, I want to use a larger hook.
Use a metal work surface under pot. There will be a few spills.
    Good luck and be careful.

You can save a lot by using the site I use Do-it Molds: Jig, sinker & lure molds for pouring your own lead fishing tackle

. I have been pouring mine and several other folks down here in Miss. I can get everything I need from these folks and the lead is from my local ties shop..

Man......Thanks alot guys. I appreciate the help. The only reason that I was going to go to BPS was of course the gift cards from Christmas. Maybe I will just keep it to buying the paint and some other supplies. I will go to Cabela's for the melting pot.
